Abstract Content and Style
Each submitted abstract must include the following and carefully follow these guidelines:
- Title - Complete title must be capitalized, including subtitle.
- Author(s) - List the full first and last names of each author. Underline and list the presenting author first, and include his/her full contact and affiliation information below this number 2. Use superscripts to identify multiple authors with different affiliations (follow the format below). Do not use superscripts for single authors or multiples from the same affiliation. Separate multiple email addresses from the same affiliation with semicolons. Hyperlink email addresses
- Presenters contact information - name, address, phone number, email.
- Body of Abstract - Abstracts must not exceed 250 words. Emphasize the results of a study or the practical application of a resource management project or program. If there is more than one paragraph, single space between paragraphs and do not indent.
- Key Words - Capitalize the KEY WORDS and include no more than five.
- Session Theme - Identify the theme(s) under which you think this presentation best fits. See list of themes at www.naturalarea.org/08conference/call.html
Note: Develop the abstract in Microsoft Word in a Windows format, using one-inch margins and Arial, 10 point font. All spacing within the title/author area, abstract body, key words and conference theme should be single spaced and separated from each other by one space. Please see the example below and additional examples.

Oral Presentations
Oral presentations in the concurrent sessions will be 20 minutes in length, followed by 3–5 minutes for questions. Adherence to presentation time limits will be strictly enforced. Microsoft PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat Reader are strongly preferred for oral presentations. Overhead or slide projectors will be available only upon special request by June 30, 2008 to Lisa Smith, wildflower@laurelweb.net. If your abstract is accepted, you will be provided further information on operating system requirements for your presentation, instructions on getting your presentation loaded, etc. Check the NAA website www.naturalarea.org/08conference/call.html for this information as it becomes available.
Please note that you will be asked to provide an electronic copy of your presentation which will be made available on the NAA website after the conference.
Poster Presentations
Posters are strongly encouraged as they allow extended informal discussions, active participation of co-authors, and are displayed throughout the conference. You are required to be present during the formal poster session on October 15 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Poster boards must be landscape- oriented, sized 4 x 3 feet (1.2 x 0.91 m) or smaller.
Student Presentation Competition
Students planning to present a paper and/or poster at the conference are strongly encouraged to enroll in the Student Presentation Competition. Along with your abstract, send a short statement of intent to participate in the competition and proof of student status (copy of current registration, letter from academic advisor, etc.). Winners will be announced and awards presented at the conference.
Attention International Presenters!
A limited number of $1,000 scholarships are available through the Natural Areas Association's International Program, for presenters who are seeking financial assistance to help defray costs associated with travel to and attendance at the Conference. The scholarship application procedure is independent from the abstracts submission process and conference registration. You must indicate interest in applying for scholarship assistance when you respond to the Call for Papers with an abstract submission. Once your paper is accepted, your name and contact information will be given to our International Scholarship committee, who will provide you with the scholarship eligibility requirements and application. Eligibility is primarily based on financial need. Note: all scholarship awards payments are in the form of reimbursement by international money order after (within 30 days of) the conference (no cash or other payments will be provided at the conference).
