The mission of the Natural
Areas Association is to advance the preservation of natural diversity.
The Association works to inform, unite, and support persons engaged in
identifying, protecting, managing, and studying natural areas and
biological diversity across landscapes and ecosystems.
What does the Natural Areas Association Provide?
As a forum for those committed to conservation, the Natural Areas Association:
- Publishes the Natural
Areas Journal; one of
the leading voices in natural areas management and preservation.
The quarterly, peer-reviewed Journal includes articles contributed by both scientists and practitioners on timely and topical issues. Recent articles include research
and monitoring of rare species, invasive and exotic species, prescribed fire effects, riparian ecology
and effects of management actions within natural areas. The
Journal
also includes editorials, letters
to the editors, notices of upcoming conferences and workshops, book reviews, progress reports from state
and federal natural area programs, and important announcements to the membership.
Hosts the annual Natural Areas Conference
and meeting of NAA members. The conference usually convenes in the fall,
and the venue changes location each year--last year we were in Cleveland, OH; this year,
Nashville, TN.
The 2008 Natural Areas Conference,
with the theme: "Tuning
into a changing climate and biological invasion" will be a remarkable event.
The conference includes keynote speakers, a plenary session, symposia
designed for the participants, contributed papers (over 160 presentations
were offered last year!), a banquet, annual award presentations, field
trips/workshops, plus many other events designed to maximize participants'
ability to network and problem-solve with peers.
Publishes the Natural Area News,
a must-read newsletter (spring, summer, fall) which provides timely articles affecting the natural areas community.
It also contains updates on NAA activities, Action Team and Committee
projects, and events. Check out the full fall/winter issue of the
Natural Area News

Sponsors international programs
--

International Workshop
