Job Title:                Natural Resources Coordinator / Supervisor

Institution:            Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department; Division of Nature Preserves and Natural Resources

 Location:               Charlotte, NC

 We are seeking a dedicated and skilled person to become an integral part of our Natural Resources team. The candidate will supervise natural resource management staff and projects and oversee / assist in the collection, organization, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of scientific information regarding nature preserves, natural communities, and native plant and animal species found within Mecklenburg County. 

 Specifically, the candidate will conduct field surveys, biological inventories and ecological assessments, coordinate and supervise staff and projects, and oversee seasonal staff, contracted scientists, and volunteers. Additional duties include database management, scientific literature review, evaluation of data collection techniques, and report preparation. The incumbent must effectively interact with various academics, state and federal agency personnel, local politicians, environmental groups, journalists, and the general public.

 Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in conservation biology, botany, wildlife biology, ecology, natural resource management, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred. A minimum of 2 years professional experience is required. The candidate must have an understanding of the principles of conservation biology and the role of science in natural resource management. This position requires technical knowledge and field experience in the assessment of natural community types, identification of plant and animal species, and biological inventory and monitoring. Starting salary range: $41,160 (80% market rate) - $51,450 (market rate)

Job Title:  Parks & Recreation Director

Location:  Rochester, MIchigan
Charter Township of Oakland

Develop and implement goals, objectives and priorities.
Understand and manage expanding programs in natural areas stewardship, recreation, and capital improvement.
Oversee park maintenance, operations, planning, land acquisition and development.
Work with staff to prepare and propose budgets and monitor expenditures.
Research and seek supplemental funding.
Develop agendas and reports for Commission meetings.
Human resource management of a growing staff (currently eight).
Communicate with public, media and community groups.

Bachelor's Degree in parks and recreation, public administration, business or related field.
Five or more years related full-time experience as administrative level parks and recreation professional, directly supervising employees and overseeing budgeting and expenditure control.

Full-time; $52,000 -$ 68,000 plus full benefits.
